「儿童」钢琴曲集共八十五首,分为两个部份,第一部份为匈牙利童谣和民谣的旋律,共四十二首;第二部份为斯洛伐克童谣和民谣的旋律,共四十三首。研究者使用的版本为多佛(Dover),校订者为Benjamin Suchoff。

“For Children” consists of 2 parts with 85 pieces. The first part with 42 pieces is based on Hungarian Melodies and the second part with 43 pieces is from Slovak Melodies. The researcher uses Dover edition, which is edited by Benjamin Suchoff.

巴尔托克在「儿童」钢琴曲集中技巧的练习均有细心的编排,如指法、跨手、踏板、力度等的使用均有其特殊的目的,以达到练习技巧的用意。

The piano technique, such as fingerings, crossing hands, pedals and dynamics are arranged carefully and thoroughly by Bartok to achieve the purpose of music.

巴尔托克的「儿童」钢琴曲集的音乐风格,以匈牙利的民谣为基准,使用巴尔托克独创的方式表现出来。在音阶与调性方面不喜爱使用大、小调,大量使用匈牙利民间音乐经常用的教会调式,或其它民族的音阶。拍子有使用到变换拍号的形式,最常使用到快板的速度,拍号以2/4拍最常见。曲式方面以一段式的反复曲式为主,充满复古风情。也使用到现代乐派的和声,如爵士乐、四度音程、复节奏等其它现代乐派的手法。

The music style reflects the characteristics of Hungarian folk songs. For example, Modalities and non-diatonic scales are used more often than major and minor scales. Multimeters and strophic forms are not uncommon. Allegro and 2/4 time signature are mostly seen in this piano collection. “For Children” is not only filled with the renewal of classical atmosphere, but also filled with the characteristics of modern music, such as jazz, forth intervals, and polyrhythm.

记谱法方面得出两个结论,第一个结论是多佛版本的「儿童」钢琴曲集里,一律没有使用调号,只使用临时升降记号。第二个结论是巴尔托克使用比较少见的记号,将乐句分开,这些记号有四分休止符、八分休止符、十六分休止符、延长记号、「│」、「││」、「,」,其中以延长记号使用频率最高 。

Two important findings about Bartok's notations are found in this work. First of all, there is no key signature, instead, only accidentals. Secondly, some uncommon symbols are used to separate phrases, such as crotchet res, quaver rest, semiquaver rest,│, ││, ,, and fermata. Among all, fermata symbol is used most frequently to separate phrases.
